Swimming in the desert?
It may seem like a funny concept to some, but our little ones loved it! It resembled somewhat of a new "Beach" experience because there was sand everywhere! Here, we are visiting our friend, Eli's home where Morgan a.k.a. Miss Bossy is in between the boys, "keeping everyone in check".
Too hot to play outside... bring the playground inside...
When it's over 125 degrees outside, we don't usually play in the sun and get a tan. Instead, we head to a mall and play inside (in the a/c). Here Morgan is having fun riding a ride at an indoor play area for children.
Laundry, an all day event...
As mentioned before, we are learning to do laundry in a different way. First you turn on the hose and let the washer fill with water and add soap. Next you add the clothes and turn on the washer dial for 12-15 minutes to wash the clothes. Then you turn the dial to rinse so the water will drain out the bottom hose. Next you turn back on the water hose and add softener to the clothes. Turn the dial for another 12 minutes for the next cycle of softener. After that, you rinse again and the start putting clothes (7-8 garments at a time) in the spinner in order to ring out the water (turn the dial for 5 minutes). After all the clothes have gone through the spin cycle, you hang them to dry on the clothes rack (as seen below)... And depending on how much laundry we have built up, it could end up being an all day event!
Micah is now starting to eat baby food!
Interesting enough, we have not seen vegetable baby food in jars sold in the stores here (only fruits). Therefore, Liz has decided to make her own baby food and Micah is loving it! So far we have only experienced applesauce and sweet potatoes, but he is doing well and knows when the bib goes on and he sees his spoon, it's time to eat!
What do we eat?
We have been able to find many foods in the market that we would normally eat and make meals out of (thankfully). And here are a few of our favorites (snacks not meals)... Fun-Fetti Cake Cookies and of course (being Texans), gotta have salsa! (G-Pa would be proud).

I'm gonna make baby food for Lucy, too. She's not quite getting the hang of it yet (we've been trying since the week before she got so sick in VA). We're not too disciplined ourselves at giving it to her every day. Oh well. She likes to gum on things, though! See our last blog post! And oh the laundry... it's a never ending process, isn't it! Well, it sounds like laundry of the 40's and 50's. Way to far ago for you to know, but it was done. Can you hang outside? With that heat it wouldn't take long......Homemade baby food is so much better. After you puree some, you can put it in ice trays and freeze. Then put in baggies and use as needed. Do have a freezer, right? You'll get the hang of laundry and will so appreciate home when you return. Love to all...jp
Hello fam....love the pictures and appreciate you sharing your life with us. Nice to see you are learning about the "old school" way of doing laundry and other things like making homemade baby food. I just have one question though: why sweet potatoes? ha ha
Just know that mimi will definitly be lifting you guys up specifically b/c you are feeding Little Man potatoes that are sweet??? What's up w/ that??? No, really, pics are wonderful! love all of them. Miss all of you...especially interacting and holding Little Miss and Little Man.

Sounds like you are all are experiences so many new daily adventures. I am not quite sure about the laundry things but the beach/swimming sounds like fun on all of your HOT days and homemade baby food has to be so much better for Micah. Maybe you can start a business!!! Can you make your homemade salsa too?

I love the little washing machines over there!!! And I even came home and bought a drying rack in an effort to cut down on electricity costs. However, in this humidity, it does take a while for them to dry. I have had more than a few complaints about the stiffness of the clothes. Oh well. Looks like ya'll are settling in. stay cool!!
Hmmm...well at least we do have a decent washer and dryer. I can't imagine the heat there...it is 75 here in Costa Rica and I am sweating! Crazy huh?
I am just finally catching up with your family again as we have been getting settled in our new home.
We have had complete sticker shock here.....everything is so expensive.

Life really looks like an adventure there. Enjoy reading all about it. Taking Luke to UMHB on Wed. We will move him and get to see the newly weds, Benjamin and Casey. They seem to be doing fine. We think of you often and appreciate all the updates.
