We did it! We explored and survived Petra! 2 weekends ago, some friends were in town visiting and we all spent a day at Petra together. Man Alive! You would think that 7 hours is enough time to visit one place.... except that its not! And I heard somewhere that to explore every area, high and low that it takes up to 3 days to really see Petra. So imagine only 7 hours!
Anyways, it was Amazing and I'm so proud of Morgan and Micah. They were such troopers during the entire day... climbing, exploring and even smiling when I was taking their pictures! Enjoy the pics.. I took so many, it was hard to choose...but here are some favorites!
The Treasury was a pretty amazing site! Especially after we had just walked through what used to be "the old city" with rock walls to both sides of us.
And of course there were camels just sitting in front of The Treasury...
During the summer of 2003, Randall rode his first camel at Petra... and he wanted Morgan to have the same opportunity.... She was hesitant at first when she found out she couldn't share a camel with Randall... but it didn't take her long to smile and enjoy the Awesome Experience!
While Randall and Morgan rode their camels 3km down the way, Micah and I did some exploring on our own... on foot.
I thought this opening looked like the State of Texas... so naturally we took a picture!
Micah and our friends climbed these stairs... I "conserved" my energy for the even bigger "hike" coming up!
900+ stairs later and about 25-30 minutes later... we made it to the top of The Monastery. What a site! And such a reward for all of that walking!
We then went further up to the "High Place" except, we stopped to take in this breath-taking view!
Couldn't pass up a "horse-lovers" dream... Morgan was in heaven!
Micah wasn't as sure.. but he smiled anyway!
Even though these last few pics are out of order, since they rode horses before heading to the car, I couldn't resist this last pic as a "summary" of our day...
We had our first family camel ride!
It was the scariest thing I'd ever done... especially as the camel stood up! I was certain that I was going to fly forward! It was a really cool experience and such a great day!
Come visit us and we'll take you to Petra and you can have your first camel ride too!
